On Monday this week husband and wife team Matthew and Emma Hellier, owners of the Emma Hellier Salon, Sackville Road stood in front of three influential business judges, in the Amazon Growing Business Awards at Grosvenor House, Mayfair, London.
After picking up Employer of the year just four weeks ago at the Sussex Woman in Business awards the Salon has been shortlisted again to just five finalist for this national award – the entrepreneurs were tasked with selling their “product” to the three judges in a 20 minutes “Dragons Den” style pitch.
The judges, consisting of Royston Guest (CEO of PTI worldwide) Michelle Ovens (director of small business Saturday) and Laura Woods (director of Academic Enterprise at Teesside University) quizzed the Bexhill couple on a recent initiative called the EH Blowdry Club.
“We offer a unique membership, allowing unlimited number of blowdry appointments for one single low monthly payment of £30” Emma explained.
This has allowed the salon to fill occasional dead periods and quickly replace cancelled appointment.
It has brought new life into their business as Matthew describes “since rolling out the membership numbers have increased sixfold and we have doubled the size of our team”
The results of the awards will be announced at the Grand final held on 29th of November at the London Brewery.
But having already been contacted independently by the business guru judges since their pitch, Emma and Matthew are already happy with the outcome.
